If you don't know, Abuelo's is a 'higher-class' chain Mexican restaurant serving delicious mexican food and drinks. We usually eat here at least once a month but with the little one around it's not as easy to get out and it's not really in our budget to eat out as often as we used to. Our dear friend Mary was dying to
We started with chips, guacamole, salsa and the most amazing fantabulous drink. The Sangria Swirl:
And another shot of the hubs checking out the menu, but this was mostly just another shot of my guac and drink:
Here's a shot of my dinner (rice, beans, shredded beef enchilada, chicken enchilada)
And here is the hubs' dinner (street tacos, rice, and beans)
The surprise of the night came after we ordered dinner. Let me just start by saying Rick isn't suave. At. All. When we got engaged we were staying in a cabin in the woods and he was recording a video tour of the house on his camera phone like he does every time we go somewhere. He came back in the room and showed me the video. The video ends in one of the bedrooms and it's a shot of the pillow with a box on top of it. I was a little bit confused and this is how the conversation went:
Me: what is that?
Rick: why don't you go look?
Me: (gets up and walks to bedroom, picks up box and opens, realizes it's a ring) Are you serious?
Rick: yes
Me: you know you're supposed to get down on one knee and ask me
Rick: (kneels down) Will you marry me?
Me: Yes
So when he flung a white box at me last night over dinner I had a feeling it was another one of those moments. Last nights conversation went a little like this:
Me: what is that?
Rick: why don't you open the box and look?
Me: (opens box slowly) we don't get each other anything for our anniversary
Rick: so...
Me: but I didn't get you anything?!
Rick: so...
Me: why did you get me something?!
Rick: because it's our 5 year anniversary
Me: but I didn't get you anything?!
Rick: I don't want anything, I like giving gifts better than getting them, just open the box
Me: okay (opens box)
And this is what I got:
If you can't tell, it's 2 peas in a pod. The first pea being Rick's birthstone (rose-October) and the second being mine (peridot-August). There are also 2 little 'leaves" one that has R and the other one has S. This was the most creative gift I think I've ever gotten from him so I was super surprised. Dinner was fabulous, the gift was amazing, and I still can't believe it's been 5 years already. After finishing dinner we both waddled (we were stuffed) back to the car and drove quickly to Mary's to pick up the bean. I was dying to see her again :)
Beautiful necklace! I'm glad the two of you had a great anniversary! Happy 5 years and here's to more!
