Doing a Good Deed with VSP

I think we all get that feeling in our lives that we need to do something for someone else.  Whether it's letting a coworker know they have a sesame seed stuck in their teeth or serving Thanksgiving dinner at a homeless shelter.  The bigger the deed the better you feel about yourself and your day becomes so much brighter, imagine what that does for the person on the other end!

What's really cool is that I found a great partnership between VSP and the Special Olympics.   VSP Vision Care (VSP) is the leading not-for-profit vision benefits and services company in the United States with 58 million members and a network of over 28,000 private-practice optometrist nationwide.  Approximately 2% of the global population (almost 200 million people) has Intellectual Disabilities (IDs).  Even crazier is one in three athletes who participate in the Special Olympics suffers from undiagnosed vision problems. Ten percent of athletes report that they have never had a vision exam.

VSP being as awesome as they are, actively seeks opportunities to increase access to quality eyecare and eyewear, such as partnering with Special Olympics. More than 60 percent of persons with intellectual disabilities have not received an eye exam in more than three years, and one in three Special Olympics athletes suffers from an undiagnosed vision problem.  Here's where you get to help VSP developed the “Send a High-Five” campaign to generate awareness about the importance of healthy vision as well as the barriers to care people with intellectual disabilities face.  It's a virtual application on their website that takes just seconds to help out someone in need.  When you High Five an athlete, VSP Vision Care will donate a FREE eye exam, new glasses and follow-up eye care services to an athlete served by the Special Olympics. When your friends High Five, we’ll continue to donate to the Special Olympics Opening Eyes program, up to 50,000 athletes served! Send this to your friends today! This charitable program ends November 16, 2012.
